My name is Susan Wards and this website is about the family, and some of the descendants of my Great-Great Grandparents John GLENNAN and Catherine HACKETT, who with three of their children, arrived in Sydney, Australia on the 17th January 1842, aboard the ship "Anne Milne". They were Irish Catholics from Kildare, County Kildare, Ireland. John, Catherine and their children were accompanied on their journey to Australia by another Kildare family, Anthony and Mary Glennan and their children. The families travelled from Sydney to the Manaro District by bullock train. John and his family settled in Cooma, NSW where they acquired land and raised sheep. Anthony and his family settled in the Goulburn area. I thought that John and Anthony were probably cousins and recently this was confirmed when I was DNA matched to one of Anthony and Mary's great great grandsons through an AncestryDNA test.
The above photo is of the area once known as Navanstown about 6kms from the town of Kildare where John and Catherine were married. As you can see the village no longer exists. In 2013 when I visited Kildare, Ireland I asked a cabbie to take me to Navanstown. He had no idea where it was and after a phone call to his boss who in turn rang his father we eventually got some directions. We set off and finally after asking the local postman we were able to locate the general area.
If you think you are related to the Glennan family or you have any information, documents or photos please
